The Highwaykick 1 from Scoot and Ride is a real classic among the 2-in-1 vehicles for small children. It combines a balance bike and a scooter in one and grows with the child. Now the Austrian company is bringing a new version onto the market: the Highwaykick 1 Push and Go – with a push bar for parents. But is this feature really a game changer or just a nice addition? We tested it for you!

Ride-on mode – proven concept

As usual, the Highwaykick 1 can be used as a balance bike with a seat. The height-adjustable seat remains and the conversion to a scooter is done in just a few steps.

Assembly & Height Adjustment

The assembly is simple: The seat is inserted into the designated holder and fixed with a small lock on the back.

The seat height can be adjusted in several steps. Our almost two-year-old child already needed the highest setting – which seems a bit wobblier than the lower positions.

Our recommendation: Give it as a gift for the child’s first birthday so that the balance bike mode can be used optimally.

Lock the steering for more control

A practical switch for locking the steering ensures better straight-line running – especially helpful for beginners!

The push bar – a boon for stressed parents?

The biggest innovation in the Push and Go is the push bar – a real relief for parents! Anyone who has ever “carried” a tired child home from the playground knows how valuable this can be.

Assembly & Height adjustment

The bar is simply clicked into a hidden opening at the back – a big advantage over older models where this is not possible.

It can be adjusted to three heights and secured with a quick release fastener.

The bar does have a little play to the left and right, but in the test this proved to be of little concern.

How well does the steering work?

Since the Highwaykick 1 is controlled by shifting your weight, the child can also be steered using the push bar – at least for gentle changes of direction. Tight curves are difficult, however: Here the scooter has to be lifted briefly to prevent it from tipping over.

Footrests for comfortable riding

There are footrests mounted on the footboard on which the child can rest his or her feet. Unfortunately, you need tools to remove them – this would be a more practical solution.

Our conclusion on the push bar

Despite its minor weaknesses, the push bar is a great help – especially in crowds or shopping centers, where scooters are often not allowed. For parents who often have to push their child and want to keep control, it is a real plus!

Scooter mode – quickly converted

Once the child becomes more confident, the Highwaykick 1 can be converted into a scooter.

Quick conversion without tools

Simply loosen the quick release, rotate the seat upwards and attach the handlebars – done!

Our child (almost 2 years old) still uses the lowest setting when standing, which works well:

Safe scooting with rollover protection

An additional protective feature is the rollover protection at the front, which is designed to prevent the scooter from “standing up” on curbs or uneven ground. Unfortunately, tools are also required here to push it forward.

In any case, always wear a helmet!

Technical details rated

Wheels

The wheels run very well:

What children really want, however, are illuminated LED wheels. These can at least be retrofitted.

Weight

Thanks to the modular design, the scooter fits well in the stroller:

At 3.5 kg, it weighs about 1 kg more than a scooter without a seat. But at least with the Push and Go you have the push bar if you don’t want to carry it.

Our conclusion

The Highwaykick 1 Push and Go is a clever upgrade of the popular model. The push bar makes the scooter particularly practical for parents and gives children a break when their legs get tired. Small criticisms such as the play in the bar or the footrest that cannot be installed without tools hardly spoil the overall picture.

For parents who often have to push their child, the new model is definitely worth considering!
